The approach to combat Spanish influenza was similar to the ones adopted today. These included isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly.
It was called Spanish Flu, and millions of people were affected. it was one of the most severe pandemic in the recent history. The H1N1 virus affected a huge population in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. The economic life also collapsed just before the first World War.

The influenza affected the world from 1918 to 1920; a period of two years. The influenza had similar results from what we see today: on the advent of coronavirus. The people were applying social distancing, using masks for protection; limiting meetings and travel plans and all the stuff we see even today. The wave of Spanish Influenza lasted for two years initially. However, it also had a comeback and it was there for good five years.
Similarly, the world saw a pandemic in 1820 as well. The Cholera outbreak also resulted in millions of deaths worldwide. In 1720, the world saw Great Smallpox epidemic. It also resulted in a number of deaths. This was a strong flue which has severely impacted the entire world.
